Over the summer we were approached by Hush Studios (heyhush.com), an animation and design firm based in DUMBO, to work with them on a room in this year's Esquire House apartment. The annual Esquire House Project is an attempt to create 'the ultimate bachelor pad,' alternating between stunning homes in New York and Los Angeles each year. Hush's concept for the Acura-sponsored home office of the future involved an interactive touch screen table that also served as a touch activated synthesizer. We utilized videomapping techniques to activate the table's surface and produce the visual and aural touch-reactivity in real time (the sonic component wasn't plugged in to any speakers when we shot this).

Working with several creative partners, including architecture firm Third Eye Studios (thirdeyestudiosnyc.com) and recent University of Georgia alum Brian McGaw, the dynamic team spearheaded by Hush created a singular experience destined to be the talk of this year's Esquire House Project events.

Thanks also to Digital Projection International (digitalprojection.com) for providing us with a dVision series projector, it was the perfect tool for the job! And to our friends at Cornerstone Conservation (cornerstoneconservation.com) for their innovative and thorough installation job.

The University of New South Wales commissioned Spinifex and Wizard Projects, through the builder - Brookfield Multiplex, to design and develop a showcase for this groundbreaking project. The Tyree Energy Technology Building hosts research into clean energy technology, and will also feature some of the latest technology in its own design. Only the third 6 star Green Star rated building in Australia, it will be a model for the future.

The showcase itself is a 7m interactive canvas, comprised of 12 daisy-chained touch screens. The display provides access for visitors to a wealth of information, from a high-level induction into the design principles to engaging explanations of the building features and a live data visualization aggregating the building metrics, such as energy consumption, solar harvesting, water and gas usage.

In fact, the data visualization is an important compliance factor for the Green Star rating, allowing the building owners to monitor and manage usage based on the insights provided through the metrics.

A private party was organized by Quintess to announce the creation of the agency [kju:]; 2Roqs was solicited to create 3 interactive installations: an interactive floor, a touch screen and wall projected animation involving participative messaging ( with SMS ). This series of installations complies to a graphic charter imagined by the design team at Kju, enhancing the concept with the dynamism of real-time animation and various degrees of interactivity.

2009 - Final career project - Interactive Floor Engine from Alberto Milà Díaz on Vimeo.

Project created during February / March '09 at the MediaLab La Salle.

The engine has been developed with Processing and allows easy-to-build applications made with any programming language, both for interactive floors and touch screens.

It consists of several modules which permit calibration, communication and rich design. The core works based on IR modified webcams and vertical projections theory. Blobs detection is achieved through image treatment / comparisson and with JMyron's Processing library.

The main differential feature is the integration of a communication module which boosts interaction (the example applications in the video show "Nintendo DS" look alike functionalities).

The engine also uses the ColourLovers online API to offer elegant color palettes.

Interactive Mirror achieved to become the role as a communication tool between the sales staffs and the customer. It has some functions like recording full-high-vision photos of the customer who try some clothes on from any angles even back shot, also various real-time effects that entertain to customers, without any operation it plays advertising movies and broadcasting runway videos. It displays maximum 6 of recorded photos on the screen at once. Customer can compare those shown items individually and see which item is the best. It is designed with an intuitive touch screen interface.

Concepto

Dermis es el resultado de la investigación sobre las posibilidades de nuevos materiales como interfaces hombre-máquina. Partiendo del trabajo de A. Sherwood y M. Allison "Firewall", comenzamos a trabajar con pantallas de Spandex y con un sistema interactivo que reconoce las deformaciones de la interfaz. El resultado: una pantalla táctil que también monitoriza la presión.

Concept

Dermis is the result of research on the possibilities of new materials like man-machine interfaces. Based on the work of A. Sherwood and M. Allison "Firewall", we started working with Lycra screens and developing an interactive system that recognizes the deformations of the interface. The result: a touch screen that also monitors pressure.

Neonode, on of the worlds leading developers of touch screens for mobile devices needed a film to promote their core concepts in a visually compelling way for web and fairs. We felt the importance to focus on hands and skin to emphasise the tactility and immediacy of the interaction. Set in a 70's retro graphic world with a warmer feel to separate it from usual tech-demo films to help build a brand that focuses on the user experience rather than the technology behind it.

The Sociable Table is an interactive bar table that helps patrons "break the ice". It's also a great way to interact with others. The Sociable Table is the answer to the question: what if your cups could talk?

Visitors will approach a touch-screen tabletop where they will be served the beverage of their choice and given the opportunity to mingle with the other guests. This drink (specifically the glass), will be their link to the table and will identify them during their session. They will be presented with the option to play (or join) games, send messages, and doodle (among other possibilities). The social connections they make will be visualized alongside their drinks through the use of an animated avatar. The Sociable Table was created from the Reactivision technology, and built from scratch.

Team Sociable is Adam Butterworth, Ayaka Ito, Luke Alessi, Sam Sawzin, Alex Zack, Matt Bruce, Andrew Sanjanwala, and John Barbagallo.

Team Sociable received 1 out of 4 $1,000 prizes that were to be given to the most creative exhibit in the ImagineRIT festival (rit.edu/imagine). We also received the Marge Ruffing Memorial Award, a prize given to the exhibit that displays what RIT is all about — meshing the left and right sides of the brain, including the hospitality aspect of the exhibit.

Portable Large Interactive Display Concept from Hiep Truong on Vimeo.

This is a video showing some aspects of the results of my graduation project.

What you see here is a portable device which enables users to transform any bright flat surface into a large interactive touch screen.

For my master thesis at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the University of Technology in Delft I developed a portable system which allows users to create a 60inch multi-touch projection at virtually any flat surface. The concept featured a suitcase containing all the necessary components to create an interactive surface on a flat bright table. 
An application is developed to support users in the building industry in performing ad-hoc meetings where large scale building plans can be projected and discussed on a meeting table. 
This is still a concept, an actual product can be much smaller and refined. Stay tuned for a more better presentation of the concept.
